Candid crit group
Deadline: 12/05/2024City: Online | Tabby Gammer
Group crits for artists whose practices involve candid imagery.
There isn't a single book or article on the candid as a theme in visual culture. Candid is a group to provide context for artists for whom candid imagery forms a significant, but perhaps underappreciated, part of their practice to be inspired and get feedback.
Together, we explore the aesthetics of figuration, building connections and collaborating to develop new theories and create an audience for the touching, sometimes provocative, work being produced from this field of interest.
Crits are currently online - hoping to have some in-person ones and maybe an exhibition in the future too.
Everyone can share work or just listen and be part of the discussion.
Please get in touch via the form if you'd like to join.
All media and experimental practices are welcome! Examples of the candid in contemporary art could include:
- a photo taken informally without the subject's knowledge
- a painting in which subjects are acting naturally or spontaneously without being posed
- writing detailing a real-life conversation
- a film or sound recording of a crowd of people
