Kirkstall Art Trail 2016
Deadline: 31/03/2016City: Leeds | Region: West Yorkshire | Country: United Kingdom | Kirkstall Art Trail
We are looking for artists from Kirkstall, West Leeds and the surrounding areas to submit applications to exhibit their work on 16th and 17th of July at the annual Kirkstall Art Trail. The overall aim of Kirkstall Art Trail is to highlight, showcase and support the local creative community by helping to build networks, individual skills and confidence in the visual arts. As a result of last year’s success, this year will be extended from a one day event to two, incorporating more venues, more artists, and more opportunities to learn new creative techniques at our many workshops!
The Kirkstall Art Trail began in 2015 and is back by popular demand for a second year! It is organised entirely by local volunteers with a passion for arts and community.
We believe in the benefits of creative practice for individuals and society; and hope to inspire greater local engagement with the arts whilst celebrating the abundance of talent that surrounds us. We also hope to make art more accessible by keeping the event free and suitable for all.
2015 was our first year running the event and we were astounded by the reception. Over the course of the day we received in excess of 500 visitors and by increasing what is on offer we hope to double this in 2016.
Last year’s venues included a mixture of large and small, public and private spaces, including a ruined Cistercian monastery, a Cricket club, a Church, a Kitchen, a Summerhouse and an office space. This variety gives artists and visitors a chance to see the artwork in new and interesting environments whilst exploring the local area, its history and meeting the creative people that live and work here.
This year will include large public exhibition spaces, small and intimate private exhibition spaces, family friendly workshops and pop-up installations in the most unexpected corners of Kirkstall. The art on offer will be as varied as the space and most work exhibited will be for sale.
We are looking for:
· A variety of high quality art created by local people.
· Artwork of local interest and subject matter is always a bonus.
· Artists who are available on the 16th and/or 17th to greet visitors and discuss their practice.
· Artists that are happy to demonstrate their techniques to visitors would also be very welcome.
If you are unsure whether your practice may be suitable, please do not hesitate to contact us.
