MAP is a celebration of architecture, design and art in the public space. MAP focus on urban culture, experimentation and innovative practices to inspire new ways of thinking about the city. BABEL is looking for artists, architects and designers whose works explores the conditions of contemporary city and architecture to be presented during October 2015.
We are looking for ideas that are extraordinary, surprising, playful, thought provoking and transformative. We invite artists to engage with MACAU as a world heritage site and the international gamming Mecca simultaneously. Macau is a city of many different worlds, with a complex past, present and future. WHO ARE WE?
BABEL is a non-profit cultural organization, the mission of which is to generate opportunities in the fields of contemporary art, architecture and environment. BABEL is conceived as a museum without walls and aims to work between cultures and across disciplines.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for proposals from artists, architects, designers...
What type of works? Photography, film, video, performance, installations, temporary interventions in the public space, city projections, collaborative and participatory work. We’re interested in big and small ideas, in-between arts and cultures. We invite applications from artists based in MACAU and internationally.
WHERE WILL THE ART GO?
We’re inviting proposals for artworks to be placed across the city of Macau, unusual venues, disused locations, or works immersed in local communities will be favored. Please describe the proposed context and space for your work. The proposal and location will later be discussed with the curator.
WHAT WOULD BE OUR CRITERIA TO SELLECT THE WORKS?
1 - Artistic projects that re-imagine the city;
2 - Artistic projects to be developed with local communities;
3 - Bring cultural worlds together in new and exiting ways;
4 – We will favor the following areas: film, video, moving image, photography, mixed media, performance, public space interventions, city projections, installations, collaborative and participatory work;
5 - Artistic gestures and dynamic interventions capable of uncovering stories, start new conversations or reveal hidden aspects of the city;
4 – We are looking for new works as well as presentations or adaptations of existing work.
Artists should expect their project to be developed in collaboration with MAP team.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
We offer the production budget and accommodation.
We offer curatorial and artistic development, technical support and a significant press, marketing and audience campaign.
MAP offers the chance to build new collaborations and extend your network with artists around the world.
HOW TO APPLY?
Deadline: 31 July 2015, midnight.
We will acknowledge the receipt of all applications. Shortlisted artists will be notified by 15 August 2015 and invited for a discussion about the proposal. We regret we are not able to give individual feedback for unsuccessful applications.
