Portraits and life drawing, working from my studio in Burley, Leeds.
Figurative drawing, working from my studio in Burley, Leeds.
I founded Leeds Drawing Club, a life drawing school since 2007, running tutored and untutored life drawing classes and courses.
I consider myself to be a new artist, but have worked in the arts in Leeds since 2007 having owned and operated an independent art gallery in Leeds City Centre.
During my time as curator, I focussed on the experiential aspect of art exhibitions. Playing with space, light, sound and sometimes taste. I was very passionate about creating atmospheric, tactile and interactive exhibitions, often site specific, that would take the viewer out of their day to day and place them in a new and interesting world, encouraging them to reflect deeply upon the themes explored in the artwork they see.
Exhibitions of note in Leeds city centre that I devised, designed, and Project Managed: Leeds Through a Lens (The Gallery at Munro House, 2012) Cyclism (The Gallery at Munro House, 2014) The Edible Art Exhibition (The Gallery at Munro House, 2015) City of Cake (Trinity Shopping Centre, 2016) Leeds Through a Lens Revisited (The Gallery at Munro House 2016) The Victorian Dinner Party, (Leeds Central Library, 2016) Plant Grow Make Eat (The Gallery at Munro House, 2018)
My own art practice is figurative, and I work two dimensionally, drawing and painting. My subject matter is mostly portraiture but I do a lot of life drawing during the classes I run at my studio in Burley, which I then develop further. My area of interest is mainly portraying women, including myself and my daughter. In particular, when a woman finds herself at a juncture in her life such as motherhood. I am interested in exploring those dark and frightening places a mind visits during this process, but through the lens of empathy, softness, and kinship.
