My practice revolves around the idea of labour intensity, often in a highly gendered context. I work mainly in mark making and textiles but also use writing to inform and underpin my practice.
My practice revolves around the idea of labour intensity, often in a highly gendered context. I work mainly in mark making and textiles but also use writing to inform and underpin my practice. As an artist, I employ rules based structures with which to work in, and part of the engagement with this, is working out where the rules can bend and break. This means that whilst my work is often extremely intensive and time consuming, I approach it with a humorous, mischievous angle. I feel very passionately that the art world is too hierarchical, unappealing and takes itself too seriously. It struggles to engage with people. Thus, a large part of my practice revolves around craft and women’s work, which is often seen in the domestic context and forced outside of the white cube space.
