I am a multi-disciplinary artist interested in rules, systems and transposition of archival imagery which blurs the line of abstraction. I am an associate lecturer of art with an interest in sustainability in Printmaking and endangered crafts such as paper making and lithography.
As a multi-disciplinary artist, working through drawing, painting and print, I am driven by process, the use of systems and the effect of digital technologies on traditional art-forms. Thematic structures are applied and usually concern colour, scale, form and use formal strategies, which invariably apply chance or limitations, by which my practice (praxis) could be considered a game or challenge. There is a consistent ‘what if’: the innate desire to see ‘what will happen’ to find the answers.
The work uses a fuel for transposition which can have an indeterminate finish. This fuel is both old - family photographs - and new archival material - work made from old - and becomes cyclical in nature through documentation and further explored through digital manipulation. There is a constant fluctuation between the value of the hand, as the fuel is transposed, interpretation of skill and manipulation through technology adding to the challenge and discovery.
I make, I record, I re-make and record.
