Rosa Prosser is an artist filmmaker from the Lake District, UK. Her practice seeks to explore human//more-than-human encounters and entanglements through the methodology of “sensory ecological ethnography”, a site-specific and embodied approach towards research, communicated predominantly through the medium of moving image.

My name is Rosa Prosser and I'm an artist filmmaker from the Lake District in the UK. My practice seeks to explore and (un)tangle human - more-than-human intra-actions through the methodology of "sensory ecological ethnography", a site-specific and embodied approach towards research, communicated predominantly through the moving image.

The methodology I have been developing is grounded in techniques from the sensory ethnography lab at Harvard - using a sense of play and experiment whilst integrating digital media, installation, and performance, to explore the aesthetics and ontology of (what they describe as) the "natural and unnatural world". Alongside these techniques, the methodology is rooted in the philosophies and approaches of Donna Haraway, Eduardo Kohn, Anna Tsing, Astrida Neimanis, Karen Barad, and Jane Bennett (amongst, of course, many other incredible thinkers, writers, and storytellers).

I use my practice as an embodied and creative engagement with place. Working in a digital medium, I am aware of the technology-mediated-ness to my encounters, and responding to this, constantly seek to question and unsettle the enactment of agency between filmmaker and "subject". The lens becomes a way of translating shifting encounters and experiences into image, and in that sense, the encounter itself becomes a form of performance art.

I am interested in the ways in which art contributes to the place-making of a given space - entangling stories, histories, ecologies and bodies into a gathered piece - the digital output becoming material through both what it holds, and where it is rooted.
