Angela Anning is a textile artist working from her York studio. Textile art is a second career, following a degree in Fine Art and English and a career in education. Her work includes a range of fine and decorative arts but always linked by a theme drawn from current drawings and observations. She is a member of York Textile Artists. She has exhibited frequently in York Open Studios.
Angela Anning works in natural materials - wools, linen and dyed silks - creating highly textured art using wet and dry felting techniques to bond and sculpt the materials. Sometimes the work is overlaid with layers of hand or machine embroidery. Her starting points are photographs and sketches of places she has visited and recorded; but then the processes of creating work are influenced by the nature and characteristics of the textiles with which she is working.
