Laine Tomkinson Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
I am a full time artist living and working in Nottingham in the East Midlands. I have been committed to my art practice for over forty five years, since graduating from The University of central Lancashire in 1999. For the last fifteen years I have been an abstract artist, using screen-print, however I am now embracing a range of media; monoprint, collage and drawing on paper
I overwork and overprint geometric or linear shapes with collage, paint or screen-print processes, so the forms appear suspended in space, transforming hard edged shapes into something with depth and luminosity. “The use of bold colour in my works is vital to the sense of energy and dynamism I’m working hard to create. I’ve been a practicing printmaker for over thirty years, but recently I’ve been merging it with different disciplines; particularly painting and collage. A significant part of my work’s development is the purposeful obscuring of the history of the work, achieved by adding paint, monoprint or overlays, perhaps cutting into it to make another work or adding more material to an already colour saturated artwork” The powerful use of colour and expressive gesture produce artworks that evoke positive feelings and emotions in the viewer. “My recent mixed media works are a response to everything I love; music, dance, the natural world, or simply the joy of being.
