Sarah Buckett Lancashire, United Kingdom
My art practice combines paper collage art and illustration with sharing my creative journey as a self-taught artist. I design and host workshops for children, adults and families that celebrate creative expression as a tool for healing and reconnecting with ourselves. I work from my home studio in Lancashire.
My work features paper from both vintage and contemporary magazines, with a particular preference for fashion magazines of which I am a longtime collector. I enjoy recontextualising imagery and cultural messaging from magazines, quite often taking things with darker undertones and rehoming them within new, naive/innocent visual narratives. I love the tactile element of cutting and sticking, the physical movements and the way it can be almost meditative in its process. It is a beautifully simple and accessible medium that can yield incredibly complex and diverse artworks. I create each piece entirely by hand and only work digitally to scan work for printing when I do a basic clean up or resize. It is important to me that each piece has an authenticity and any prints are as close to an exact version of the original as possible. Maintaining a beginners mindset allows me to experiment and explore with grace and not be hindered by preconceived notions of success as an artist. I am constantly learning and developing and thoroughly enjoying this journey.
