As mixed media artist, I have worked as a textile artist since I took early retirement 14 years ago. Recently, I have also restarted water colour painting and my work now includes a mixture of paint, fabrics, stitch, hand weaving and embellishments. I have taken many courses on textile art techniques, printing, eco dyeing, paper making. etc.

I started a group of textile artists in North London about 8 years ago. Originally I taught the techniques I use to the group but now we largely operate as a self help group, although I still run summer workshops for the messier techniques, such as hand dyeing, in my garden. We have held two exhibitions of our work in North London and are currently planning for a future exhibition. I have also exhibited my work as part of the Two Year Advanced Textile Art course at City Lit and in various galleries in the UK. My interests are eclectic and the subject matter of my work varies considerably, from a large wall hanging depicting the impact of human actions on climate, to small, 3D depictions of lichen and moulds.

Small Textiles

20/07/2023 — 12/08/2023

I submitted a piece of work for this exhibition through Curator Space and was lucky enough to have it selected. It was one of a series of small pieces all based on liverworts and mosses, all greatly enlarged. It is three dimensional, fabric and embroidery stitches, with paper string embellishments.

A second exhibition by my (at that point) two groups of textile artists. This exhibition contained mostly the work we had done for group projects over the previous two years. One set of work was called "Our Industrial Heritage", a second set was a large copy of Klimt's "Lady with Fan, which was divided into nine sections, each worked on by an...

Embroidery and Beyond, Fibre Art from North London U3A

02/08/2016 — 25/09/2016

We showed an eclectic selection of our individual work which included weavings, quilts and a piece we had worked on together, called "Endless Landscape". The latter was a series of small slices of landscape, made individually to strict rules, which fitted together to produce a long landscape picture. I curated this exhibition myself. We also...
