    Finn Dobson (b.1992) is a Leeds-based self-taught visual artist and poet. Working with textiles and mixed media, they address themes of queer, trans, disabled embodiment, whilst noticing the nuances and interconnectedness of experiences.     During total isolation, in lockdown, I painted over a 164 artworks up to date. I also took up meditation which allowed my imagination to flow again. It was cathartic and eased the trauma from what was happening in the outside world. Life is returning back to what was before, but with a greater sense of appreciating family and friends, united.

    Creative expression has always been intrinsic to my life having worked with pencil, pen and ink, lino cut, oil pastel,watercolour and acrylics. After retiring in 2017 I followed my passion for mid century design restoring and selling sewing boxes internationally.I then returned to mixed media work in 2021 focusing on transparent alcohol inks on birch ply to enhance the beauty of the wood grain.

    Originally from North Yorkshire, I gained a degree in Fine Art Printmaking at Sheffield Hallam in 1983 and made Sheffield my home. My career as an artist and educator spans over thirty years and I have worked in as a solo practitioner and collaboratively in film, photography, performance/spoken word, text, installation, 3D.
