Charlotte Loukes West Sussex, United Kingdom
I live and work in the South Downs National Park. The downs are full of ancient trails and folklore, I’m not a greatly spiritual person but I love old European fairytales and the work of MR James. Walking my dog I find new views and inspiration. I work in watercolour, pastels and gouache. Mark-making is a constant source of fascination.
I am fascinated by the dimly-lit, half-seen in nature. Even managed landscapes hold hidden realms of untamed beauty beyond our perception. Besides well trodden paths and trails - hedges, woods and barns hold traces of the uncanny. I guide the viewers gaze through a halo of empty space, light and colour.
