Claire Cansick Norfolk, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

I'm a landscape painter of poignant memories, weather and natural phenomenon using recessive colours created with a limited palette, working in Norfolk, UK.

I explore my place in the world through landscape particularly by looking at recessive colours and nature's dynamism. Painting has long been about putting a frame around my experience of landscape, its history and our impact on nature. I strive to put more of myself in and the drive to paint comes from expressing deep emotion which I cannot put into words. My experimentation with colour involves a limited palette of a core four colours which evolved through experimentation. I work with expressive marks using oil sticks and brush to begin a painting, capturing emotion and energy which is then tamed with detail. I use drawings and my own photos as source material; photos taken from life, films and TV, which is discarded at some point letting the paint and imagination take over.
