CLARE SHERIDAN-WALLIS Hampshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

I live in The New Forest, Hampshire, with my little family. My love for the natural environments of the Forest is the primary source of inspiration for my jewellery designs. I use different techniques and processes, such as etching and casting, to apply textures, patterns, and symbols of the New Forest into the surface of silver.

My love for the natural environments of The New Forest and the wildlife it encloses, is the primary source of inspiration. I use different techniques and processes, such as acid etching, casting and saw-piercing, to apply patterns and symbols of the forest into the surface of the metal. I use fire and flame, tools, and techniques to manipulate the silver, creating beautiful collections inspired by natural surroundings of the forest. I cast acorns, seeds and other specimens foraged from the forest floor, and I use photography and sketches to study and recreate plant life such as leaves, flowers and fungi.

My primary source of inspiration is the surrounding forest where we live. I really struggled to find my ‘theme’ during my degree, and it was only when I moved to The New Forest in 2016 that I found the fundamental theme I had been seeking. My love for the natural environments of the Forest and the wildlife it encloses, is now the primary source of inspiration. My collections of work now flow and entwine together. I am so proud to say I have accomplished a distinguished identity within CSW Jewellery that stands out as being mine. I take inspiration from everything, from the forest floor, up to the treetops.

I adore what I do. I truly feel blessed. Each piece of CSW Jewellery is designed and handmade by me, making every piece unique. Being able to make beautiful jewellery for people to wear and to cherish is a feeling like no other. The drive to make this dream job a success has never been stronger, and becoming a mother has definitely emphasised that. My two children watch me work, enjoying one of the things I’m most passionate about. I want them to believe they could do the same one day, creating a brand that brings freedom to work for oneself, and around the family. It’s a tough industry, but my mission is to continue to grow, as an artist, a small business and as a mother. This year I can work full-time on the business which really excites me. I’m full of ideas and can’t wait for new adventures!
