Ian Kemp Artist Photographer Essex, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

As a multimedia artist focussed on photography, Ian works from his studio on the Essex/Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border. Producing innovative photographic, canvas and 3D forms in series, often with moral, social or ethical themes, Ian seeks to expand his practice with each new project. Having been exhibited in a number of shows he is working to achieve gallery representation in the near future.

Ian is a lens based artist who studied at the Colchester School of Art, graduating in Photography in 2022. Ian has previously worked within the fields of child protection, the prevention of domestic violence & hate crime and has run projects creating improved facilities for vulnerable victims of crime. With innovative concepts, he favours creating projects that question human behaviours and that highlight societal issues with nuanced and thoughtful reflection on the subjects, sometimes in disquieting ways. While concentrating mainly on contemporary conceptual projects, Ian also has an interest in social documentary photography having based a number of his works in this field. Since graduating Ian has expanded his practice to work on a number of painted canvas projects and some conceptual 3D form pieces. Ian works from a peaceful studio in the North Essex countryside close to the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire borders and with such facilities he is keen to offer collaboration on projects and share the workspace to achieve improved outcomes.

“The Peace Makers Arms” exhibited at ‘Talent Show’

07/07/2018 — 29/07/2018

The beautiful lines and iconic nature of war machinery guarantees that it maintains a reverence within society. Whilst in no way diminishing the momentous roll it played in our history Ian has sought to also consider the ugliness inherent in its make up, not only in its physicality but also in the purpose of its design - a design that was,...
