Dave Mitchell is a Gay artist working predominantly on canvas particularly focused on the pervasive nature of darkness upon a world of colour, as a visual metaphor for mental health challenges in the modern age; primary vision is through the eyes of an LGBTQ+ adult. Dave believes that Art is a power for good and reveals the world and its challenges.
Working with Acrylic paint on primarily black canvas, Dave approaches his work from the position of darkness based on a life of survived trauma. The addition of colour represents a positive mental perspective that is temporary before darkness encroaches upon the positive moments in paint. Both aspects remain, resulting in a fragile balance for the viewer and audience.
