Donna Andronicos West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
I have been painting for approximately 12 years but have only recently taken steps towards building my artwork in to more than just a hobby. This increased focus has seen an evolution in my work, moving towards stronger, bolder and more colourful creations, which I feel reflects the newfound confidence I have in myself as an artist.
My creative work includes acrylic and mixed media painting and photography. I believe that both mediums allow me to express my creativity in different, but complementary ways. The textures, shapes, light and colours that draw me to a particular image are the same elements that find form in my paintings.
I am inspired by my environment – the landscapes around me are a constant source of inspiration on a sensory level, guiding my work and allowing it to develop organically as I feel my way through the painting process. My desire is that my abstract artwork evokes the same sensory response for the observer as it does for me, but in a way that is meaningful for them – whether that is a memory recalled, a sense ignited, or a feeling expressed. I want to invite the observer to stop for a while, maintain their gaze and to see where it will lead them. To not just look with their eyes, but to allow their senses to guide them in the same way that the work was created, and to feel the same level of engagement in a piece that I felt when creating it.
