I’m a trans*-disciplinary artist, award-winning theatre designer, and doctoral researcher in queer history and performance, working across scenography, performance, drag and visual art. Bringing diverse and disparate platforms and communities into conversation and entanglement, my work has been staged in the West End, international opera houses, pubs, clubs, ships, cabarets, museums and leaky basements. I work with, through and for queer bodies, squinting at history, flirting with ghosts and the things that go bump in the margins. My emergent solo artistic practice draws on my background as a theatre-maker and my research in social, material and marginal histories, staging dialogues with ghosts of the queer past, present and future. I use the trans performing body as tool and method for a counter-archival practice, using vocabularies of theatre and drag to create intimate and spectacular interactions with costumes, objects, spaces and other bodies, tracking queer and trans traces in the negative spaces of the archive. My work is instrinsically interdisciplinary and transversal, encompassing installation, sculpture, live art, text, performance-for-camera (or ghosts), putting disparate media in juxtaposition, entanglement and conversation. I’m interested in transience and transformation, drawn to ephemeral and unstable materials such as ice, hair, and food, and unruly practices like mudlarking, exploring materialisations of time, and work that resists fixity, categorisation, or commodification. My practice flickers between durational performance, kinetic sculpture, drag act and ritual, blurring process and product, artefact & event. I believe the interesting stuff happens in the cracks between places, genres, & bodies.
