Jo Forbes North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Recent graduate of a first class degree in BA (Hons) Fine Art at the Northern School of Art. I enjoy the process of investigating landscape via graphite, paint, photography and collage. I absolutely love being on location with a sketchbook and pencil. I am Interested in the emotional, historical and environmental aspects of the landscape that give my work purpose and warmth.
I love investigating the landscape with an emphasis on emotional connection, geological forms, environmental issues, historical links and a sense of ‘journey’.
I am interested in mark making and often let my pencil or paintbrush guide me to access emotions that the scene evokes. I am interested in how landscapes change dramatically by season and different light effects.
My passion is to sketch and paint on location to truly capture the essence of the landscape. I use studio time to extensively investigate the way a landscape draws me in and I aim to find the lesser-known route to portray the landscape in an abstracted manner.
I work instinctively and can sometimes be observed working on several pieces at once. I often use layers of painting or collage to build an expressive surface that adds momentum through preparatory work, this culminates in a 'final' piece.
The end goal aims to encapsulate an emotional response and symbiotic relationship with the landscape.
