Kerrie Hanna Down, United Kingdom
Kerrie Hanna is a multi-disciplinary visual artist based in Vault Artist Studios in Belfast. Her work explores the human experience through a distinctive figurative style across illustration, stained glass and street art. Her practice is often socially engaged with a strong focus on projects centred on community arts, peace building and mental health and wellbeing.
Kerrie has worked as a stained glass artist on many commissions and restoration projects across the past 10 years, learning the trade during time working as a glass painter on public projects. Another strand of her practice involves engaging the public with art in unexpected spaces, such as billboards, ad sites, with spray paint murals and/or glass installations in the public realm.
Recently Kerrie was awarded commissions by National Gallery of Ireland making a stained glass panel 'Eiru's Welcome' for their permanent collection which was co-designed alongside the Youth Panel. Kerrie also worked with Mornington Women's Group to design and create a stained glass panel 'A Moment of Peace' exploring themes of mental health and wellbeing which is on display in Belfast City Hall.
Previously, Kerrie was The MAC Community Artist In Residence 2023, completing a project in the public realm with an illustrated Billboard campaign around mental health, working alongside participants from Action Mental Health. She was awarded Malone College Artist in Residence in the same year, where she completed a stained glass panel for the school co-created and painted with the young people, celebrating 25 years of Integrated Education.
