Lauren C Naylor South Yorkshire, United Kingdom
My textile art is a vibrant mix of colours that carries a strong message about humanity and the fragility of our environment. Using techniques like hand-dyeing, beading, and detailed embroidery, I create a colorful story that encourages reflection on the delicate state of our world.
My artistic practice, rooted in contemporary textiles, blends traditional techniques with a modern aesthetic. With a background in Fashion and Textiles and a Master's in Accessories Design, I draw inspiration from diverse craft traditions. I focus on the mindful art of slow stitching, incorporating hand-dyeing, screen printing, applique, batik, hand-embroidery, and beading into my work.
My art reflects a deep connection to heritage, particularly through traditional embroidery techniques passed down from my Grandma. Sustainability is at the core of my practice, often using reclaimed materials to convey an environmental message.
Beyond my academic journey, I have gained valuable experience working with vulnerable individuals. As a creative educator, I’ve used art to encourage inclusivity and empowerment. This experience adds a meaningful layer to my work, influencing both the art I create and the purpose behind it. I’m always open to new challenges and collaborations, seeking opportunities to explore fresh artistic horizons while continuing to advocate for the vulnerable through my creative practice.
