Dreams. Stories. Fantasies. My paintings are portals to imaginary worlds, interconnected parallel universes, a journey in search for the authentic being within. They are meant as a short immersive experience, an escape from the boredom of day to day life, a philosophical experience that asks questions and gives answers at the same time.
Images appear in my mind sometimes, other times I take them from my dreams or old photos. I am a self thought artist looking to create my own style, although my fascination of surrealism is undeniable. I manly use oil paint as my medium. First I would start by creating the under painting layer, in raw umber only. When I’m happy with the composition I would start adding the lights and shadows, at this stage besides more raw umber I use lead white. Then I would start adding the colors, in a thin layer as I prefer playing with layers rather than mixing the colours before adding them on the canvas. I work with natural pigments and mainly use the Umber, Ochre and Sienna colours, Terre Verte, the Lead colours, Verdigris, Madder Lake, Quinacridone, Caput Mortum, Antwerp blue, Indigo, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Cinnabar, Shungite, 23k Gold and Silver. I prefer the natural to the synthetic paints that come in tubes, plus grinding my oils myself I can control the viscosity and concentration of pigment. Although I always have a clear image in my mind when I start, at one point the painting starts to have a will of its own. Things appear or disappear, and sometimes the whole narative changes.
