Mona Whitton is a mixed media artist, who enjoys pushing the boundaries of the media she works in. from stained glass to textiles, resin to acrylics, she believes in experimenting with the media she is working with to find innovative and exciting ways of expressing herself. She is a visionary and perpetual idea generator, operating at full throttle even on sick days.
Whilst stained glass is where her primary passion lies, Mona is happy to work with a variety of media and especially loves combining them in interesting and creative ways. She has an understanding of the environmental impact of Stained glass so endeavours to balance this by incorporating recycled materials where possible.
Mona holds a strong belief in the power of Art to help with positive mental health. With this in mind she works with a variety of charities and community groups to deliver affordable art sessions on a weekly basis. She recently undertook a project for Kent County Council to develop an installation designed to highlight mental health issues. The project consisted of 300 raku-fired bowls, made in her studio, decorated by the general public and installed in the Turner Contemporary Gallery.
Mona has undertaken a variety of commissions, both private and public, national and international and in a variety of media, from welded sculptures to stained glass panels.
Working with artist Camilla Stubbs she founded Art Is For All UK, a unique company which supports local artists, provides studio spaces and offers retail opportunities.
