Sam Ivin United Kingdom
Sam Ivin is a photographic artist who explores social issues and the people connected with them. By documenting their stories and perspectives he hopes to provide a more personal, tangible understanding of them. Ivin’s process often involves hosting photography workshops, where he creates collaborative artwork with project participants.
I am a photographic artist based near Dorking, Surrey. My socially engaged portrait projects explore topics such as displaced people, human migration and healthcare. I often facilitate photography workshops, where I create collaborative artwork with project participants.
I aim to assist people’s wellbeing, create change and share stories. I am interested in working with vulnerable people, and making positive contributions to communities. I am passionate about giving opportunities for people to be creative and enjoy working collaboratively with communities.
My practice focuses on creating photographic portraits which I decorate or manipulate, including hand-scratching c-type prints, painting onto photographs or digital manipulating images in Photoshop. Sometimes these portraits are co-created with participants.
During projects and my work with art organisations I host creative photography workshops where participants learn photography and visual art skills. I have clear goals with space for participants to make their own creative decisions. My goal with workshop sessions is for people to learn new skills, build confidence, share experiences and have fun!
