Mandy Segal Surrey, United Kingdom
I've been on a creative journey for over 20 years, earning a Bachelor's and Master's in Fine Art. My work featured in exhibitions like "Come As You Art" and "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" in 2021, even amidst COVID-19 challenges. I also designed a poster for "The Shadow Pandemic" in Brighton, raising awareness about domestic abuse during the pandemic.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work is a journey into the layered, sensory-rich memories of an autistic, neuro-diverse childhood seen anew through the lens of adulthood. My autism informs every aspect of my creative process, heightening my sensitivity to details—each sound, color, and texture resonates with an intensity that transforms ordinary moments into vivid emotional experiences. Each piece draws from a spectrum of emotions—joy, wonder, confusion, and introspection—shaped by a unique perceptual world where sensory details are both overwhelming and deeply inspiring. In exploring how early memories don’t simply fade but evolve with time, I reimagine fragments of my childhood through an adult perspective that is distinctly autistic. My art reflects the interplay between simplicity and complexity, innocence and heightened awareness, inviting viewers to step into a landscape where the nuances of autism merge with the timeless dialogue between past and present.
In my artistic process, I seamlessly blend a diverse array of mediums and techniques. Digital artistry lays the foundation, allowing me to explore boundless creativity and precision. Acrylic paint bursts with vibrant life on my canvas, lending depth and emotion to each piece. Tissue paper adds a tactile dimension, creating intricate textures that beckon touch. Photography captures fleeting moments and fuels my imagination, while traditional paint application ties it all together. This harmonious fusion of digital innovation and tangible materials defines my unique approach to art, guiding my hands as I craft each piece.
