Mandy Segal Surrey, United Kingdom
I've been on a creative journey for over 20 years, earning a Bachelor's and Master's in Fine Art. My work featured in exhibitions like "Come As You Art" and "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" in 2021, even amidst COVID-19 challenges. I also designed a poster for "The Shadow Pandemic" in Brighton, raising awareness about domestic abuse during the pandemic.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work is a journey into the layered, sensory-rich memories of an neuro-diverse childhood seen anew through the lens of adulthood. Each piece draws from emotions that have shaped my experiences—joy, wonder, confusion, and introspection—capturing the intensity and nuance of moments that feel as vivid now as they did then. In this process, I explore how early memories don’t simply fade but evolve, gaining depth and meaning with time. By reimagining fragments of childhood through an adult perspective, I create art that reflects the interplay between simplicity and complexity, innocence and awareness. My work invites others to enter this evolving landscape of recollection and reinterpretation. It is a place where childhood and adulthood meet, where past and present continually shape and redefine one another, creating a vibrant conversation between the many layers of experience that make up a life.
Process In my artistic process, I seamlessly blend a diverse array of mediums and techniques. Digital artistry lays the foundation, allowing me to explore boundless creativity and precision. Acrylic paint bursts with vibrant life on my canvas, lending depth and emotion to each piece. Tissue paper adds a tactile dimension, creating intricate textures that beckon touch. Photography captures fleeting moments and fuels my imagination, while traditional paint application ties it all together. This harmonious fusion of digital innovation and tangible materials defines my unique approach to art, guiding my hands as I craft each piece.
