SOFIA ROE is a visual artist with a passion for paintings, ceramics and textiles. Sofia builds a little of her personality into each piece such as splashes of gold to reflect her empathy and warmth; asymmetrical shapes to demonstrate her appreciation for diversity, equality and inclusion; and fluid pour techniques to raise awareness for positive environmental change.

I was raised in a cosmopolitan family that exposed me to diverse cultures and a strong appreciation for art. I studied art through school and university, and held a successful commercial career in fashion for over 20 years working for some of the largest organisations in the UK. I travelled extensively, and was privileged to really engage in those local environments. As I entered midlife, my career motivations shifted and I began working as a psychologist. During that time, I reflected on my work and personal influences, and realised that becoming an artist would allow me to fully express my experiences and emotions, and bring great joy to myself and others in the process. I reconnected with my creative passions, and have been hooked ever since! Witnessing my flexibility and growth as an artist, and taking pleasure in everything I create, are the most rewarding parts of being an artist for me. Although I do not categorise myself as an artisit of any particular style or medium, my inspiration is always derived from my own observations, memories and life-defining moments. Some of my paintings are detailed with elements of realism while other pieces are abstract, multi-layered, textural works.
