Bio Abdullah Adekola (he/him) is a Black-British working-class writer and performer. He works for a mental health charity and is a board member of the David Oluwale Memorial Association. I am a Black-British working-class writer, performer and creative well-being practitioner. I have designed and delivered workshops, and courses and have facilitated poetry, creativity and well being workshops across all ages from schools and universities, to corporate and community settings. I am a writer, performer and all-round creative. I am interested in Afro futurism, work that is critical and optimistic. I am interested in Black Joy. I am interested in challenging the current social order of racial capitalism, and patriarchy, and exploring alternative futures. I am interested in ideas of belonging, challenging categorizations, resisting fixed interpretations, and redefining the ways we connect and express our ever-changing identities. I explore how our sense of self is shaped by the histories, geographies, biology, and culture we inherit. I am interested in how technology can help us to explore new ways of thinking and experimenting with who we are. I work full-time in mental health and public service and my creative practice can only be pursued part-time. I would like to have more of a balance between creative practice and full-time work and ultimately be a full-time creative. I am influenced by the writings and sayings of various people such as Bell Hooks, James Baldwin, Roger Robinson, and Audre Lorde. The majority of my work is public-facing work, performing, facilitating and hosting, producing digital and live-streamed making films, etc. I am ready to up-skill in areas such as facilitation, social media marketing, and do more creative-to-creative and business-to-business work. For example, creative directing and consulting, producing, technical support, mentoring, teaching, and so on.
