bikebones Somerset, United Kingdom
Bikebones has been creating upcycled artifacts, artwork and lighting since 2017. By working with materials that had a previous life and using traditional craftsmanship each piece invites the observer to embrace its natural imperfections.
Some objects possess a beauty that naturally arises from the inner purpose they fulfill. This beauty can be found in many abandoned things around us—whether in old, classic bicycles or discarded objects scattered through the city streets.
Traditionally, art was created by artisans and woven into everyday life—whether through the geometric patterns of a carpet or a poem meant to be shared and passed down. Bikebones blends metalworking expertise with a deep passion for foraging, crafting pieces that reflect this connection to both art and nature.
Bikebones' skull art is a tribute to the natural world we have damaged—a monument to the life that once was. It seeks to challenge the traditional practice of taxidermy, which has often been seen as a human attempt to conquer and control nature.
Perhaps, in the urban subconscious, mechanical parts and industrial objects—made out of metal and geometric patterns—serve as modern-day emblems or talismans. They remind us of our role as the bridge between nature and the technological world, reflecting the shifting psyche of contemporary humanity.
