  Back to profiles

I have been painting and exhibiting since 1998 and spent 12 years in Vietnam where I owned a gallery. I am so happy to be back in my native Yorkshire. My recent watercolour and acrylic works concern themes such as Origins, Belonging and the Joy of Life. I believe in the honesty of art and follow where my inspirations lead me. Inspirations include Hundertwasser, Doig, Hurvin Anderson and Hockney.

Since the start of my artistic journey, I have enjoyed exploring a variety of mediums, including paint, graphite, ink, etching, and linocut. Over the past twelve years, my focus has shifted exclusively to watercolor and acrylic paints.

In solo exhibitions of the last decade of, I have created a series of new works centered around specific themes which have included Landscapes of Vietnam, Windows in Vietnamese architecture, and a collection of abstract pieces that capture the spirit a particular World Heritage Town.

Since 2022, my concentration has been on abstract works reflecting our shared origins. Returning to the hills of Yorkshire has allowed me to express feelings of ‘Belonging’ and ‘The Joy of Life’ after being away for so long.

My imagery incorporates symbols drawn from science, mythology, belief systems, and cosmology. I have a keen interest in geology, archaeology, mathematics, time, and maps. Collectors of my work often recognise recurring colour palettes and motifs throughout my pieces.

I paint or sketch nearly every day and also volunteer at the Craven Arts Centre in Skipton, where I have found my new artistic community. Lastly, I would like to mention that I previously served as a senior lecturer at Leeds Arts University, and I continue to enjoy teaching drawing, aesthetics, and complementary studies.
