Elena Putley North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Originally from Moldova (formerly part of the USSR), I have called Harrogate home for the past 28 years. Since 1995, I've resided in the UK. Currently, I share my passion for art and photography as an educator at Harrogate Grammar School while continuing to refine my skills as a painter. My preferred mediums encompass painting, mixed media, and ceramics.
Despite leaving Moldova many years ago, my experiences have shaped my artistic perspective, finding a new canvas for inspiration in Yorkshire. Initially, I confined my artistic endeavors to depicting places I've visited, but I found this approach somewhat limiting. Hence, during my travels, I diligently document my surroundings through photography, collecting ephemera ranging from menus and postcards to antique trinkets. These artifacts serve as catalysts for memory and imagination, infusing my artwork with vitality and depth. I am particularly drawn to the vibrant energy of cities and the allure of new locales, which never fail to ignite my creative spark. My educational background: 1981- 1982 foundation in art from Repin College of Art in Moldova, 1983 - 1989 a degree in sculptural ceramics from the Academy of Music,Theatre and Fine Art of Moldova. 2000 - 2002 an MA in Art and Design from Leeds Beckett University.
