My work explores labour separation, between class and gender. By presenting a dichotomy of public and private job materials, creating indications of construction works with materials symbolic to traditional views of women-hood. I reflect upon a dysfunctionality and insecurity of self within my future role as both an artist and a woman in construction.
Within my work I look at playing with different materials found within a construction environment, that symbolise human labour. Placing these kinds of objects within a gallery space presents a dichotomy of class work categorisation- the gallery, a usually white walled gallery space that sadly usually mostly middle to upper class, and the construction environment, a usually dirty, oily, metallic environment in which is mostly a working class job sector.
