British Painter/Printmaker depicting strong women characters. Portraits and self portraits, Inspired by stories, language, folktales, myth, symbolism and Nature and landscape.

I graduated from Sheffield Polytechnic in 1985 and completed a postgraduate Diploma in Printmaking at Brighton Polytechnic in 1989, being awarded the Redfern Gallery Prize. I continue to regularly exhibit my paintings and printmaking in the UK and abroad in both solo exhibitions and group shows. My work focuses on portraits of women and their relationship to story, myth, folklore and Nature. I have spent the last two decades working in Art Education, running workshops for Sheffield Children’s Festival, Sheffield Municipal Galleries, in conjunction with touring exhibitions from the Tate Britain and the A. I am an associate lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University teaching Drawing. Concentrating on my own creative practice, my original printmaking and paintings are represented in both private and public collections. Alongside my fine art practice, I have produced book jackets books for Sheffield Academic Press and Continuum Books, who commissioned a series of cover illustrations for their feminist and theology publications. Other illustrations commissions include Cupola Gallery, Crone Club, Crucible Theatre and various images for music performance and recordings. Related creative projects include sonic improvisation and drawing performance, films and recordings, where I collaborate with fellow free improvisers/artists across the UK, Europe, America and Canada. I am a member of Juxtavoices anti choir, Les Petroluses, Improvisors Ensemble and Blank Canvas Octet. Painting and printmaking awards include Angel Row Gallery Nottingham, National Printmaking Prize, National Westminster Bank Painting Prize at the Manchester Open Exhibition, Peterborough Open and 1st Prize in The Princes Business Trust Painting Awards at the Royal Society of Art in 1993.
