Georgina's cross-cultural background defines her as a person and as an artist. She is an Australian born, USA educated artist raised in Greece and has been residing in London's international environment for over a decade. Her background as an activist lawyer and mediator informs her artistic sensitivities around injustices involving trauma in relationships and human rights violations worldwide.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Captive of our own identities, living in prisons of our own creations.
In modern societies we are all seen to be enjoying several freedoms that most of our ancestors were deprived of. The battle to secure Rights to Self-Determination and Freedom of Expression has been won. As a lawyer and law scholar the notions of ethics, freedoms and rights have always been important to me and worth studying and defending. Liberation from enemies that are apparent to the naked eye is truly a mark of success and remarkable progress for all humanity. We should all be proud of and grateful to our ancestors for such victories. However we continue to live in an illusion that we are experiencing true freedom, not being aware of how many invisible enemies exist. Thematically my art focuses on these unseen foes.
My art aims to deal with repression, suppression and oppression we experience which can often be self inflicted.
My true desire is to follow all paths that lead to emotional liberation. By sharing this experience with those who wish to join me on this journey my artistic expression gains momentum. Creating art on themes that inspire me as an individual work as a visual reminder of my deepest needs, wants and aspirations in life.
Leaving behind anything that compromises our happiness will set us free.
