Sarah Hutt United Kingdom
Sarah completed a degree in textile design and worked as a colourist and print designer for several years before taking up her career in Education. Although not formally trained in the Fine Arts, she uses her knowledge of print and colour to create her own unique style. She travels with her sketchbook to remote places seeking areas of solace for inspiration.
Sarah’s work is heavily influenced by her time working as a headteacher supporting students with Autism. She focuses her work on the intensity of colour found in seasonal changes in the landscape. Sarah paints in watercolour Plein Air, building a colour palette from the natural rocks and fauna she scavenges on location. Back in the studio, she paints by layering shapes and textures using collage and acrylic, drawing influence from her sketchbook and colour swatches. She thinks less about composition in the early stages allowing it to reveal itself as her work develops. ‘For me, painting is a time to focus on the awe and wonder of this beautiful planet without the distractions of daily life. A time to contemplate and value the simple things.’
