As a neurodivergent artist I greatly value the transformative power of art, having worked as a care worker with people with autism and other neurodivergent condition for many years. Self expression, self realisation and actualisation are the central pillars of my artistic practise.
In my work I use found materials from magazines and books, rags used to wipe up paint, and photos taken by me of the urban environment where I am specifically drawn to decay and deteriorating surfaces. Two central themes of my art are the nature of work and time. The simple acts of choosing, placing, tearing, painting, masking and scraping, time given to self directed, un-alienated work, making art, is time rescued from the exhausting pressure of capitalist accumulation. As a neurodivergent artist and care worker with many years of experience working with autistic and other neurodivergent people I understand the transformative power of a creative practice which cannot be given monetary value.
