Julia Dunstan East Sussex, United Kingdom
Experimental and innovative multimedia artist exploring the power of meaningful narratives through visual art. Pushing the relationships of materials and processes to challenge people’s assumptions and invite them to see the world in a new and different way that resonates with audiences on a personal and emotional level.
Julia’s practice reflects her lifelong challenge with self-expression, self-confidence, and understanding after struggling to express herself through the more mandatory academic means which stems from the difficulties of living with dyslexia. She now feels empowered, and able to use her artistic outlet as a means of expression and representation. As a Designer Maker, her work is focused on producing pieces that explore the power of narratives through visual art. She is driven by a deep curiosity about the ways in which stories can be told through various mediums without the need for the written word. Her approach to design is rooted in the belief that every project is an opportunity to create a unique and meaningful narrative that resonates with audiences on a personal and emotional level. Julia has a practical interest in exploring social and cultural themes in her work, drawing on her own experiences and perspectives as well as experiences through interactions with others. Julia is committed to creating pieces that challenge people’s assumptions and invite them to see the world in new and different ways. One of Julia’s strengths as a Designer Maker is her ability to work across different mediums combining Glass, Metal, Ceramics, print, and textiles to create work that is both innovative and engaging. Through different processes and materials, her goal is to create work that inspires and provokes thought, while also serving as a platform for dialogue and connection. Julia is excited to continue exploring the power of narrative in a visual art form and looks forward to sharing her work with others.
