Elizabeth is an artist based in Merseyside, UK | MA Fine Art, Manchester School of Art 2019
Painter, Photographer and Visual Artist
Elizabeth Lyons is an artist whose work delves into the intersections of personal experience, the human condition, and the fragility of life. Holding an MA in Fine Art from Manchester School of Art, MMU, her creative practice is deeply influenced by working in healthcare for over 20 years. Themes of healing, vulnerability, and impermanence are woven throughout her work—echoing the complex, multifaceted nature of her professional and artistic life. Elizabeth’s practice spans multiple mediums, with a particular focus on portraiture and the human form. She works with oil painting, collage and photography, often drawing inspiration from the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi—the appreciation of beauty in imperfection and the transience of all things. This sensibility pervades her art, which reflects the delicate balance between strength and fragility in the human experience. A visit to Kyoto, Japan, in 2019, to study of ikebana further influenced her approach to composition and the exploration of natural forms. She has exhibited across the North West. Notable exhibitions include the Manchester School of Art MA Show at HOME Manchester 2019, The Bathroom Darkroom Project, a response to the lived experiences of residents in a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) in Chorlton, Manchester and her participation in Rogue Women at Rogue Artists' Studios. In 2019, Elizabeth received an award from Redeye the Photography Network and Cumbria University and has featured in Soanyway Magazine (Issue 5 https://www.soanywaymagazine.org/issue-five). Beyond her artistic practice, Elizabeth is committed to art education and is currently pursuing a PGCE in Art & Design. Her work, shaped by both her artistic vision and medical insights, offers a poignant reflection on memory and the fleeting nature of existence.
