The AIR Open 2023 is back with our annual summer show- showcasing the best of contemporary art in the here and now.

Showcase your work in our 6th annual AIR Open. This is always one of our strongest shows of the year and a great showcase of contemporary talent from around the world.

£5 per piece to enter, max 3 works. Any medium, any theme.

WHY YOU SHOULD ENTER

  • Cash prize of up to £1000
  • Additional prizes such as associate memberships, solo shows, gallery representation, art materials and more.
  •  The chance to get your work to the Manchester Contemporary 2023 to be seen by over 10,000 visitors.
  • Digital promotion of your work for selected artists throughout the show
  • Our longlist of artists will be placed in a virtual showcase that gains around 5000 views per show.
  • Plus a select few applicants will be chosen to feature in our Micro gallery alongside the main exhibition
  • Opportunity to get your work seen by an panel of industry experts and art professionals
  • Opportunity to take part in future shows- even if you aren't selected for this show, you might be offered future exhibition opportunities with us in our themed shows in 2023-2024.
  • Networking opportunities with other artists and industry professionals

Submission fees

The following submission fees apply to this opportunity.

  • AIR Open 2023 - 1 work - 5.00 GBP
  • AIR Open 2023 - 2 works - 10.00 GBP
  • AIR Open 2023 - 3 works - 15.00 GBP

The appropriate fee will be payable using a debit or credit card after the first submission has been completed. If the submission fee allows you to submit more than once, you will be able to make further submissions after the first. 12-29 July - Artwork delivery
When do I need to collect my work?
10 October - 10 November - Artwork collection
How much does it cost?
£5 per piece.
Are there payments to artists?
No but if you're northwest based you can get your entry fee refunded through volunteering for a miniumum of 4 hours one day.
Is there a private view / opening?
10 August 6-10pm
What are the exhibition opening hours?
Wed-Fri 11-5 / Sat 12-5
Does the location have disabled access?
Yes
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
Digital publicity, physical publications/handouts, external site advertising
Do I need to be present?
No but we do recommend coming to the opening night and/or closing party.
How do you decide on proposals?
Proposals are judged in the following criteria:
-Contemporary relevance- is the work relevant/have impact
-Technical skill- is this the best example of this craft/artform?
-Feasibility- Will it work in the gallery/overall show
-Concept- Does the work have a strong idea behind it
Originality- is this different to what we've seen before?

Anything in the field of Contemporary visual art.
What prizes are available?
Up to £1000 in cash prizes plus sponsorship, associate membership, solo exhibition opportunities, gallery representation and art material vouchers. PLUS the chance to exhibit at the Manchester Contemporary to an audience of over 10,000.
