Apollo Painting School is an intensive 3-month summer programme designed for UK based emerging artists with a painting practice. The programme will be accessible by open call and applications will be reviewed by a judging panel of internationally acclaimed artists and educators.

Location and duration:
Apollo Painting School will be taking place online and in person in Manchester (UK), as well as in Latina, (Italy).
ELIGIBILITY
The programme is open for applications from any self-identifying emerging artist with a painting practice based in the UK.
Applications will not be accepted by artists represented by, or anticipating representation by commercial galleries or preparing for a solo exhibition during the duration of the programme.
Applicants are welcome from different backgrounds and experience levels.
Although there are no educational prerequisites to participate in the programme, applicants must demonstrate in the application that they have been developing a painting practice for at least 3 years.
All participants must be 21 years of age by the start of the programme and have a valid passport.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit your application by 12pm BST on March 9, 2025. All applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
Application Material
In your submission, you will need to include:

Digital portfolio: containing 5 to 7 images of recent work made in the last 3 years.

Curriculum Vitae: including contact details, place of residence in the UK, nationality, and date of birth.

Statement: (up to) 1000 words, consisting of a 500-word artist statement and 500 words articulating the reason for your application.
Application Outcome
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview with the jury panel on 24 of March, 2025.
Please note that due to the expected volume of applications, we are unable to give feedback to unsuccessful candidates.
FEE
There is no fee to submit an application. Artists are invited to include any access requirements in their submission.
Apollo Painting School invites applicants from any background and is committed to covering the cost of the programme for those applicants who require financial support.
Candidates with an income below £40,000 per year can attend the Apollo Painting School for free. Each candidate will be required to submit evidence such as pay slips/or tax returns.
The value of the programme is up to £3,000.
The bursery includes:
- All travel from the student's own residence to Manchester weekly during June/July 2024.
- All lectures, seminars, artist talks and site visits (both in Italy and UK).
- Return Flights to Italy.
- Accommodation and Studios for each artist in Italy.
- Materials for production during the residency in Italy.

You will receive an email with the outcome of your application, along with instructions on how to proceed if shortlisted.
Individual, private tutorials are offered alongside material and technical support at introductory, intermediate and advanced with further opportunities to attend seminars, readings, and group sessions intended to encourage a discursive environment where peer to peer exchange takes place. Exhibition visits complement studio visits further adding off-site teaching environments for discussion and reflection.
The programme content will be delivered by several experienced and internationally renowned artists, teachers, curators and industry figures. More information on the names of the guest speakers and teachers for 2025 will be announced in the coming weeks.
Latina (IT): Students will be in residence at Liceo Artistico (Latina, IT) for one month and will be hosted by local families. Students will be hosted by Liceo Artistico (Arts High School) where they will have studios to produce new work. This month will be focussed on production with regular weekly group critiques lead by a tutor who will be based in Italy. Twice a week there will be field trips to museums and sites of interest to explore the cultural and artistic context of the region.
The cost includes:
