Garage Gallery is a new space in Walthamstow, London E17, and we're looking for curators and/or curator-artists for our pilot exhibitions this summer/autumn.

Our window gallery and gallery space are available now and we're looking for people to curate one of our first exhibitions.  If you support our ethos - to support artists who are just starting out (irrespective of age), haven't had a London show before and are producing socially-conscious art - let us know how you'd go about putting together an exhibition.  We'd also be interested in curators/artists with some link to London/East London although this isn't essential.  We're running on a not-for-profit basis.

The space is relatively small - the gallery area excluding storage space, kitchenette etc is 7m x 2.5m.  There is about 10m of wall hanging space (there's a hanging system).  The window gallery has back boards (around 2m x 2m) for hanging work or creating a separate space for free-standing work.   We're looking for exhibits for either or both spaces.

The gallery is on a residential street with good footfall, and we're in an area with other window galleries, artists studios, etc, so we'd be keen to collaborate with any of these .  The space could also be used as small studio space for a limited period so we'd also consider 'artists in residence' ideas.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
Curators and curator-artists with some previous experience, ideally with some connections to East London
When is the deadline?
Friday 15th July - although we will be putting on further exhibitions so late submissions won't be wasted.
When is the delivery date?
We want to start showing work as soon as we can, but we can be flexible about this. We're aiming to run some pilot exhibitions this summer/autumn (2022)
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for the use of the gallery space or the window gallery. If any work is sold, we would ask for a small contribution towards our running costs.
Are there payments to artists?
No
Is there a private view / opening?
The gallery is not open to the public (due to council restrictions) so all viewing would be on an invitation-only basis - although there is a little flexiblity around this. The window gallery is obviously always visible.
What are the exhibition opening hours?
Not fixed, negotiable.
Does the location have disabled access?
Yes
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
We would ask the curator to look at this but we could provide help.
Do I need to be present?
Yes, as stated above, the gallery space is by invitation only. We could provide some support for staffing it.
