Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking 2024 - Call for Submissions
Deadline: 28/01/2024City: Huddersfield | Region: West Yorkshire | Country: United Kingdom | West Yorkshire Print Workshop
Selected from open submission, the 13th Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking will bring together a diverse range of printmaking by selected artists from across the UK, presented in venues in the north of England in 2024 – our 40th anniversary year - by West Yorkshire Print Workshop.
The Flourish Award celebrates excellence in printmaking through a curated exhibition of around 10-15 artists shortlisted from open submission. We are looking for creativity, skill, originality and innovation in traditional handmade print: from relief print and intaglio to screen print, lithography and more.
The winner of the Award goes on to present their own solo print exhibition in Huddersfield. They will also benefit from a 2-week period of access to the facilities at WYPW. In addition, there are runners-up prizes, including our student/recent graduate award.
The competition is open to established, emerging, and student artist/printmakers, with shortlisting and prizes awarded by an independent panel of judges. Artists can submit up to 3 individual pieces for consideration and have the chance to be part of an increasingly recognised Award and national exhibition, which provides a significant development opportunity for the winner as well as exposure.

The deadline for submissions is midnight on Sunday 28th January 2024.

All works submitted for the Flourish Award will be viewed by a selection panel. Each year there is a different panel made from printmakers, curators, and arts professionals. The first round of judging takes places online. Works will be judged on creativity, originality, use of materials, technical ability, and overall impact. It is the selection panel's role to choose a shortlist and the eventual winner of the Flourish Award. The panel's decision is final.
For works with multiple parts each part will be counted as an individual piece e.g., a triptych would be considered 3 individual pieces.
Each Artist/Printmaker can only submit once for Flourish 2024.
Delivery of artwork and collection (at the end of the tour) is the responsibility of artists.
We make every attempt to look after each artist’s work whilst in our possession, and it is insured while with us.
All framed works must be supplied with hanging fixings. Ideally with Ryman Hangers or SpringLOCK but mirror plated, D Ring and wire are also acceptable.
Unframed works will be displayed using a magnet system. Any alternative display requirements must be supplied by the artist after shortlisting.
