Metachrosis Issue 5 - Open call for art and writing
Deadline: 03/03/2025City: Limerick, Ireland | Country: Ireland | ellen harrold
Metachrosis literary magazine is an online publication that strives to be the place where the foundations of the world around us are explored and celebrated. Created as part of the Art, Science, and Visual Thinking MFA at Dundee University, this magazine is open to all forms of writing, art, and Hybrid work, whether creative or factual. We are an emerging literary magazine looking for any work celebrating the intersection between the arts, sciences, and humanities.
We accept all forms of writing and art.
If you're not sure that what you have is a good fit you can check out all of our digital issues, which are free to read.
You can also send us a brief synopsis of the work and we'll confirm that it's of interest. ( and hopefully give you the name of someone who might be a better fit.)
We love the passionate, the critical, and the humorous, and more than anything else, we'd love to see your work.
If you want to get a feel for what we publish, you can read all of our previous issues for free on our website: https://metachrosislitmag.com
Submission Guidelines
Please only send unpublished work.
Documents should include your name.
Include a 50-word biography, which will be featured at the end of the issue.
If you want to send a 150-200 word cover letter, I'd be delighted to read it, but it's not required and won't affect our opinion of your work.
We're not interested in reading/seeing anything bigoted/pornographic/gratuitously violent.
(We mean those terms in the most literal sense. We publish works about sex/sexuality and violence.
If you want to send a brief synopsis with a list of warnings for us ahead of time, we'll confirm if it is suitable and recommend a better home for it if it is not.)
If you want to send both text and images, feel free to do so in the same application.
If you want them to be published together, please specify in the description. This may affect your submission depending on how much room there is in the magazine.
Any submissions sent outside reading periods will be ignored until the next reading period.
If we're reading submissions, it will say so at the top of the page and on our social media.
These are all guidelines, not rules. As long as everything is presented clearly, I am happy.
Word counts and genres are also flexible; if your piece is too long or doesn't strictly fit a defined category, that's fine.
It's purely for the sake of keeping track of submissions.
Poetry:
Please send a maximum of 3 poems, keep it under 40 lines.
If your poem is over 40 lines long, please send only 1 piece.
Send via PDF or docx using Times New Roman, 12pt, 1.5 spacing.
All forms of poetry are accepted.
Keep the title length reasonable; paragraph-long titles are difficult to format, and I’m only human.
Prose/Fiction
Please send one piece of a maximum of 1000 words.
Send via Word doc or .docx; I’m using an editing app to check grammar/spelling, so please specify if your work purposefully avoids specific grammar/spelling rules.
Times New Roman, 12pt, 1.5 spacing.
If you are using an experimental/visual layout, specify that in the email and send both a pdf copy and a doc/docx copy.
Non-Fiction
Please send one piece of a maximum of 1000 words.
Cite your sources using MLA format.
Send via Word doc or .docx; I’m using an editing app to check grammar/spelling, so please specify if your work purposefully avoids specific grammar/spelling rules.

Art/Hybrid/Photography/Film stills
Please send between 1 and 5 high-quality images in a medium of your choice. A high-resolution version will be requested upon acceptance.
Please don’t send me images if you do not wish for them to be published. (This includes sketchbook work supporting images)
If you want the pieces to be published together, please specify them in the description.
No AI-generated/stolen art.
(Art that uses computer simulations based on first-hand data collected by the artist or where AI is a step in the process to a larger exploration is fine; we have several such pieces in our catalogue.)
Include titles, mediums, and dimensions (if applicable) in both the application’s body and the attachments’ title.
Reviews

We'll send on two drafts of the magazine - one to confirm the correct formatting of your work and details and another to confirm any edits that were previously requested.
