This is a paid commission opportunity for four artists to make work for the online platform Mural, an open source tool for visual storytelling. Mural is working to develop its platform so that it can support web monetization in the arts with support from Coil, a company working on new methods of payment based on cryptocurrency. The project seeks to investigate ways we can support payments to artists based on per-view access to the work.

Themes

We are looking for work that uses the Mural platform and explores sustainable artistic practices and climate/environmental issues.

As we become increasingly aware of the impact our digital lives have on the environment, we would like to take this opportunity to commission works that investigate sustainable arts practices. We welcome proposals that reflect on ideas of sustainability and environmental impact. Work that offers hope and new approaches to ways we reduce waste, extending the life of digital and analog equipment, sourcing nontoxic materials and leads by example.

Outcomes

We will be working with four individuals to develop a small body of work that uses the Mural platform - https://www.getmural.io/. We are interested in work that considers how audiences interact with artwork work online. Have a look at https://www.getmural.io/stories/ and consider how your project narrative will work with the format.

Fee and support

There is a one-off commission fee of £350 to include research and all stages of production for the work, we are aware that this is the equivalent of a day and a half to two days of an artists time, please ensure that this timescale is reflected in your proposal. We will also offer training in the use of Mural to make your work. There will also be the offer of mentorship and artistic support for all successful artists by lead artist Melanie King.
