'O Curioso Gabinete: Animal' will be a touring exhibition of miniature 2D and 3D works shown in a hamster cage. The cabinet will be displayed in several galleries and other locations in Portugal, including Porto, Coimbra and Tomar.

For centuries the wealthy exhibited their private collections of what they considered to be exotic and exquisite artefacts.

These rooms invited questions about similarities, differences and connections.

Francis Bacon called cabinets of curiosities "frivolous impostures for pleasure and strangeness".

What could a modern cabinet look like? What could it celebrate or teach us?

This Cabinet of Curiosities will focus on the animal kingdom: think fossils, skeletons, rare species and specimens of awe and wonder, all curated in a hamster cage.

Artists working in any media are invited to submit an exhibit for the cabinet.

All work should have a maximum length of 10cm and should weigh no more than 60g - the average length and weight of a gerbil.

Two dimensional work will be hung on the sides of the cage or suspended from the top as appropriate.

Three dimensional work will be placed on the floor of the cage.

Artists are welcome to propose visual or sound installations suitable for a mobile piece (access to mains electricity is not guaranteed).

Proposals are accepted in English and Portuguese.

Work can be for sale subject to 30% commission - allow for this in your price.
