Opportunity for 4 artists to create artwork on a 5 acre woodland site on the Suffolk Coast, UK. All media type is welcome, whether your craft is painting, photography, sculpture, poetry, videography or any form you can think of! The brief is to creatively interpret and express the site and its surroundings and distil your inspirations into art.

Production requirements
The project’s final submission will include at least one final art piece, a collection of process pieces, sketchbook entries or inspirations developed during the 3-month project duration and a ‘thoughts diary’ describing interpretations and thought processes.

Brief
This competition will select 4 artists to individually produce artwork based on an existing woodland site on the Suffolk Coast, UK.
The brief seeks to develop artwork in any shape, form and media that interprets the site, its story and character that inspires the artist to create 1 or more unique pieces of art. In short, the theme is free for each artist to choose depending on what has inspired them. The artists will have 3 months to produce the work, during which 3 minimum site visits are required. A final exhibition of all artwork and process pieces produced will be held at the Fox Yard Studio, in Stowmarket IP14 1AB which. The exhibition will be open to the general public and run for a period of 7 days.
Artists will be able to make their artwork available for purchase at the final exhibition at the Fox Yard Studio, if desired.
All media is welcome, including painting, photography, sculpture, spoken word, videography, installation, poetry, abstract, digital, and any other crafts and talents applicants would like to submit. Please note examples of your work will be required and will be used during the judging process.
The prize for each artist will be £1000(GBP) and an exhibition of the work produced (including final pieces and process material). The client will keep 1 final piece of their choosing from each artist and the rest of the material will be scanned/photographed/stored to ensure the client has a full record of what has been produced.
The art produced will be used by Modece Architects for a project which will remain undisclosed for the duration of the competition. The judging panel for the selection of artists will be Fox Yard Studio and Modece Architects in collaboration.
Application submission
All applicants will be required to fill in the form provided on the competition submission link. Applicants will also be asked to provide examples of their work. Links to websites and portfolios with additional content are encouraged. Applicants will also be required to provide a short description describing their vision for this project and their approach to the task, 500 words max.
The application to this competition is free of charge.
Conditions and Project Submission
If successful, the artists will be required to visit the site at least 3 times throughout the 3-month period of the project’s duration, at dates of their choosing. More visits are encouraged but remains at the discretion of the artist. The artists will be able to work on site if desired. Details of the site will be provided to the competition winners. The site is an area of 5 acres in a countryside location on the Suffolk Coast in the surroundings of Leiston.
Candidates are not required to be local but please note they are required to travel to the site. Please note the site is remote from public transport. All candidates must be above 18 years of age. All work to be presentable, framed (if applicable) and delivered under the responsibility of each artist by the given deadlines (see project timeline). Charges for production and delivery are under the responsibility of each artist. All work materials/supplies/equipment and travel expenses are under the responsibility of each artist.
Final project. Artists will be asked to:
1. Attend an introduction day hosted by Modece Architects at the site location. Dates are available on the competition timeline.
2. Create a minimum of one final piece; the client will retain one final piece per artist of their choosing.
3. Compile a collection of process pieces, sketchbook entries, or inspirations during the 3-month competition period. No specific format is required, we wish to give the artist the freedom to express however is most convenient and natural to them. However, process sketches/ideas tell the story of the art created and will aid in their interpretation.
4. Maintain a ‘thoughts diary’ detailing descriptions and thought processes. As above, the format is to the artist’s preference. A digital copy/representation of this is to be supplied to the clients for records and use.
5. A midpoint report/catch-up to be submitted halfway through the project.

Finalists will be contacted for a short interview to take place on Thursday 15th February 2024.
Winners will be announced on Monday 19th February 2024.
