Do you have an artistic concept to share with the world? A new, in-progress, or recent creation, or maybe a dream collaboration? If so, OPEN SPACES might be the perfect platform for you. OPEN SPACES is a city-wide arts initiative in partnership with the City of Kansas City, local philanthropic leaders, and Kansas City Creates. OPEN SPACES Artistic Director Dan Cameron welcomes practitioners in all artistic disciplines to submit proposals for the nine-week event.

If you weren't able to attend an info session related to submitting a creative concept (due Jan. 31), view a video of the December 19th session.

Picture a diverse and imaginative spectrum of human creativity spread across Kansas City, in spaces new and old, in parks, empty urban lots, museums, galleries, performance halls and outdoor stages. That’s the template for OPEN SPACES, a two-month-long celebration of the contemporary visual and performing arts in Kansas City, from August 25, 2018 through October 28, 2018.

With the rolling expanse of Swope Park as its anchor, this multi-disciplinary art experience will commence on August 25, 2018 in a custom-built arts village in the park, and at multiple site-specific locations around the city.

OPEN SPACES will feature commissions, collaborations, and recent work from more than 80 international, national, and local visual and performing artists. The exhibition of visual artists will be on view through the full 9 weeks, will anchor the ongoing performance schedule, all culminating in a weekend musical event on October 12-14 in Swope Park.

Historical information about Swope Park, community experts, sample budget info and more are provided here as a resource when developing your submission.
