Paid opportunity
Paint Lab 2025 – a weekend of live painting inspired by science!
Paint a mural live on the prestigious Exhibition Road in collaboration with Imperial College London.
We’re inviting 10 London based artists to each collaborate with a researcher from Imperial College London to create an artwork inspired by science - live over the weekend of the annual Great Exhibition Road Festival (7-8 June 2025) on Exhibition Road, South Kensington.
This year’s theme is Senses. Join us to explore all the ways humans experience the world around us, including the unique perspectives of those affected by sensory loss, to the super-senses we find in the animal world, and the possibilities that science and technology provide for how we consume and enjoy art.
We are looking to support locally based artists and creatives to deliver a weekend of live painting.
We're especially keen to hear from artists who are interested in exploring themes of the senses in their work, either in their creative process - or through expressions of sensory sensitivities or differences.
The Process
If successful in your application - you will be introduced to a scientific researcher in late February and will then have until May to complete your proposed design.
This process will involve whatever support you require in the way of brainstorms and research material.
The Canvas
An approximately 8’ x 8’ wood surface will be mounted on large easels for you to get creative on.
Your Payment
We will offer a fixed fee of £800 (incl VAT) to cover materials, research meetings and two days of live painting on 7th and 8th June 2025 at The Great Exhibition Road Festival.
Applications close at 9 am on Monday, 10th February 2025.
We will be in touch in late February to discuss the status of your application and the next steps.
Paint Lab is curated by Jo Peel and Mark McClure at Interplay.
