Deadline: 05/12/2024

City: Glasgow  |  Country: United Kingdom  |  Sophie Stewart

This open call is interested in images that capture advertising aftermath and moments of urban coincidence. Selected photographs will be exhibited across the city of Glasgow on advertising boards.

We are organising a photography “exhibition” that covers the city of Glasgow as a poster campaign.

Ten images by different artists will be selected, printed, and displayed on advertising boards over a period of 2 weeks.

The purpose of this exhibition is to explore ways in which photography may be used as a device to disrupt advertising, amplify both the sensitivities and mundanity of the everyday, and question the role of photography in an image saturated world.

This open call is interested in images that capture advertising aftermath and moments of urban coincidence.

Photos could feature derelict objects or daily encounters, whether taken during daily commute, on public transport, in a coffee shop, etc.

The installed posters will engage people passing by, yet their content could feature transient situations themselves.

Cups left by a ledge mimic figures who previously huddled there.

The stillness of discarded luggage begs the question of what plans were abandoned en route.

Clouds reflected off a window overlay blinds seen through the glass pane, collapsing external and internal at their meeting point.

Submission Deadline: 05.12.2024

Image specifications:

- Photographs taken on any format of camera are welcome - i.e. film, digital, phone, etc.

- Selected photographs will be enlarged to roughly 100cm H x 76cm W for portrait orientation and 50cm H x 76cm W for landscape orientation.
Please consider these crop ratios when submitting and/or be willing to adjust if necessary.

- For entry purposes a typical, decent quality image size and resolution is perfectly fine. Please note that high resolution files will be required for final printing (for film this means scanning negatives on the Hasselblad).

- Print-ready file dimensions (50% final size): Portrait: 508mm W x 762mm H + 4mm bleed on all sides, 300dpi; Landscape: 508mm W x 381mm H + 4mm bleed on all sides, 300dpi

(Images submitted through CuratorSpace can be no larger than 4MB. We will ask selected artists to provide high-resolution images with the correct dpi)

- We would love for you to include a brief written description of your photo, where it was taken, and the qualities it elicits in you to be used as an accessible transcription of the visual image. Excerpts may also be used to compile a guided tour.

- Please submit 1-3 images only.
